Wang Chunhai was one of my colleagues before his death. We once worked together in a cotton mill in Mengyin County, Shandong Province. At the age of 50, he died from refusing medical treatments for being obsessed with Falun Gong. Wang Chunhai used to have a happy family with an affectionate wife and a well-behaved cute daughter. The cotton mill we worked at didn’t pay that much, but still made our ends meet. He was always interested in Qigong, so he got up early to practice Qigong by the river every day. Whenever he saw someone practicing Qigong, he would step forward to consult. That was how he was pulled into Falun Gong cult, which later destroyed his life and his family.
In the spring of 1997, as a Qigong enthusiast, Wang Chunhai mistook “Falung Gong” for a true Qigong, and thus accidentally joined the Falun Gong cult. At first, he only practiced it in spare time, so none of us was aware of his situation. Later, he became more and more introverted and reticent while he was always cheerful before. I asked him whether he was experiencing something unhappy. He replied that he was just too busy with his practice to communicate with others. At that time, I had no idea that he was actually referring to practicing Falun Gong, and that he was aiming at becoming a God after deceived by Falun Gong fallacies.
It was not until July 1999, when the government banned Falun Gong according to law that we knew Wang Chunhai had gone astray. All of our leaders and colleagues asked him to give up Falun Gong as demanded by the government. But he refused by saying that he had gained supernatural powers by practicing Falun Gong (which actually were illusions caused by hypertension when he sat in meditation), and that he would soon make it to the realm of heaven by becoming a God through cultivation. One day, his wife came to our workplace and complain to our leaders about his unreasonable behaviors, and we were astonished to learn that more than a year, he was totally indifferent to his wife and daughter, and cared nothing at home, not even for having meals on time, except reading Falun Gong books, sitting in meditation and practicing Falun Gong. Then our leaders called Wang Chunhai and asked him to explain why he neither managed his home affairs nor cared for his wife and daughter. He answered in an assertive manner, “They are not my real family members. My real family members are up in heaven, and I’m about to become a God soon to see them.” Such nonsense was one of many fallacies instilled by his “Master” who urged followers to cultivate away from fame, material interests and emotions. Li Hongzhi also deluged followers with lies such as “The family members you’re living with are not your real family members. Your real family members are in the heaven. To see your real family members, you have to cultivate hard enough to become a God.”
Wang Chunhai’s mother was nearly 80 years old back then, but she went to visit his son in person after learning the situation. Although his mother was begging him in tears, Wang Chunhai showed absolutely no emotion at it by closing his eyes. The scene drove his younger brother so mad that he beat him then and there. However, none of these made Wang Chunhai compromise even a little bit, and the words came from his mouth were quite cold-blooded that he wanted to sever the family tie with his parents and divorce his wife. It left his wife no other choice but to send their daughter to a boarding junior high school and went out to work herself.
Wang Chunhai was suffering from hypertension, and his physical condition was getting worse and worse after his wife left. To make things worse, he refused to take medicine, and bragged about it. In order to help him, his leaders and colleagues arranged a living quarter for him at the cotton mill, and assigned experienced personnels to coach him. Wang Chunhai did not appreciate the concerns from them. He was full of resentments instead, saying they were interfering with his cultivation. Starting from February 2000, he stopped working with the excuse of focusing on his cultivation. No matter who knocked on his door, whether his leaders, colleagues, relatives or friends, he didn’t answer the door. At last, they had to ask the police to help open the door, and found him lying on the ground in a coma. They took him to hospital for rescue. After medical examination, his body was in critical condition with a blood pressure of 210 / 95. However, he still refused to take medicine or receive any medical treatments. At the adamant demand of his family, the doctor gave him an injection against his will. But as soon as his blood pressure stabilized, he sneaked out the hospital when nobody was looking.
Afterwards, no one heard of him anymore. His family asked around and searched everywhere, and our company also sent people out, trying to find him, but he just disappeared without trace. In the meanwhile, it was too much for his poor old mother to bear the bad news and she died in grievance in January 2003. It was not until March 2004 that the police informed his family that he died of illness in a privately-owned restaurant. It turned out that he fled to a neighboring county and worked at a small restaurant run by a couple. He only asked for food and accommodation in return, no salary at all. So, the couple took him in. There he concealed his identity ever since. When the couple found his death in the restaurant, they called the police, and the police found his ID card from his belongings. By verifying his personal information with the local police station, the police confirmed the deceased was Wan Chunhai. According to the couple, they repeatedly advised Wang Chunhai to see a doctor after they realized that he might not in good shape as he looked very thin and weak and walked unsteadily, but Wang Chunhai insisted that he was totally fine. The couple also gave him 2000 Yuan to ask him go home for a visit, but he said he was the only one left in his family and therefore didn’t go anywhere else. In the meanwhile, the couple occasionally found him hand out flyers. When the couple asked him what those flyers were about, he answered that he just distributed flyers for supermarket to earn extra money, then the couple didn’t think much of it anymore. In this way, Wang Chunhai kept practicing Falun Gong while working.
Because of his long-term refusal to medical treatments, Wang Chunhai’s health steadily deteriorated and he finally die of hypertension. The death of Wang Chunhai marked a new victim on the slate of the evil Falun Gong cult. That was another innocent life taken by Li Hongzhi’s fallacy of so-called “Karma elimination”. I sincerely hope that his death could be a sobering lesson and wake-up call to those who are still obsessed with Falun Gong.
